MEETING OF 30 January

The meeting began at 6:45pm and was chaired by Mrs Norine Bazie.  This was our Annual General Meeting and reports by the 2009 President (Dr Maura Imbert) and Treasurer (Ms Rhetta Burgess) were presented. Full versions of these reports will be included in the Society’s journal ‘Astro News’.

Prior to the reading of the President’s report, it was announced that Dr Maura Imbert would be handing over the reins of Presidency after 38 years of serving in this post. TTAS graciously acknowledges Dr Imbert’s dedication to the Society and wishes her well in her future endeavors. She would surely be missed.

With the general consensus of members present at the meeting, it was agreed that 11 members be elected to form the Executive Committee and appropriate posts would be assigned to these members at a separate Committee meeting.  The following members were elected to form the Executive Committee:- William Barrow, Vishnu Boodram, Rhetta Burgess, Norine Bazie, Anne DeGazon, Gerald Marfoe, Marie Matthew, Cecelia Pacifique, Mona Rahamut, Shaun Reid and Corine Soo Ping Chow.

Member William Barrow then took the floor and encouraged members to bring their telescopes. He stressed the importance of knowing the sky. An interesting and informative viewing session on the rooftop was conducted. The programme for the night’s viewing was M44 – Open cluster in Cancer; M41 – Open cluster in Canis Major; NGC2244 and NGC2204– Open clusters in Monocerus. Mars and other objects were also observed.
